How to Reduce the Risk of Carpet Mold after Water Damage

Mold can grow in your carpet anytime if it has stayed wet for a while, without the opportunity to dry out thoroughly. And if your home had some flooding and the carpet was damp for more than 24 hours, it is the beginning of the threat. It is imperative to prevent mold after water damage because it carries many health risks.

It is important to remove any moisture from your carpet.  Make sure to check under the furniture and rugs.  When you remove all of the water from the flooded area you will ensure better success.

Clean and sanitize the walls, baseboards, floors and other surfaces to help prevent mold growth.

It is important to thoroughly dry out all of the surfaces in the affected room.  Create as much airflow as possible with high powered fans.

Remove affected padding under the carpet and clean the carpeted areas with a steam cleaner.  The affected padding will need to be replaced.
