Freezing weather can cause havoc on your Home or Business!

1/26/2022 (Permalink)

When there is freezing weather in the forecast, homeowners should take actions to prevent burst pipes and costly repairs.  Freezing temperatures often results in broken pipes, flooding and damage.

Here is a list of things a homeowner can do to help prevent costly damage and repairs to their home.

Prepare your water pipes early. Shut off outside faucets, drain the water and insulate them. Also drain and remove all outdoor hoses.   Pipes in attics, basements and garages should be wrapped with insulating materials.

If the outside temperatures drop below freezing, protect indoor sink pipes that are against the exterior walls, by opening the cabinet doors, allowing the heat to circulate.

If you experience a water pipe break, immediately close the main shut-off valve to stop excessive flooding.

Clean your gutters before the snow comes.  As snow melts, blockages in the gutters or drains can prevent proper draining, increasing the risk of flooding.

If you have a broken pipe or flooding due to freezing temperatures this winter, call SERVPRO of Medina County/ Gateway/Western Lake County at 800-933-7179.
